The Esayidi Rapid Incubator and Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFERI) was launched on the 12th August 2016.  The Incubator targets clients from historically disadvantaged communities within the Ugu District and more specifically the students/graduates of Esayidi TVET College.

The Esayidi CFERI contributes towards creating economic opportunities through developing and supporting emerging SMMEs.  The Incubator provides SMMEs with business development support, skills training, mentoring and coaching.  The CfERI also ensures that each SMME is given the best possible chance to make a success of their new venture.

The Esayidi CFERI is aimed at stimulating growth in cross-cutting (mixed) SMMEs and to inculcate the culture of entrepreneurship among students and graduates.The Esayidi CFE focuses on the theoretical aspects of business development and assist with the practical aspects of businesses development which include product development and provision of space for SMME’s to 

develop their business. The CfERI is strategically placed to focus on mixed sectors that are relevant to the local economic activities.

The objective is to create a physical environment that encourages innovation while also providing the space and necessary equipment to develop products and carry out business operations. The programme will also provide TVET graduates with the necessary tools and techniques to create their own SMMEs, allowing for economic growth and job creation in under developed areas.  The CfERI provides a platform of innovative thinking with a creative and professional environment for entrepreneurs to interact with each other, clients and potential stakeholders.

The Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) is an agency of the Department of Small Business Development. Seda was established in December 2004, through the National Small Business Amendment Act, Act 29 of 2004.
It is mandated to implement government’s small business strategy; design and implement a standard and common national delivery network for small enterprise development; and integrate government-funded small enterprise support agencies across all tiers of government. Seda’s mission is to develop, support and promote small enterprises throughout the country, ensuring their growth and sustainability in co–ordination and partnership with various role players, including global partners, who make international best practices available to local entrepreneurs.


Esayidi TVET College was established in 2003 after the merger of the previous Port Shepstone and Enyenyezi Technical Colleges. Since then, Esayidi TVET College has established 6 main campuses and various Community Development Centers across the Southern KZN Region. Esayidi TVET College is the Key driver of skills development in Esayidi (Port Shepstone), Hibiscus Coast and Ugu District Municipalities. These areas comprise of three major towns and numerous townships, both rural with a population of approximately 2 million people. The major industries in these areas are in the sectors of iron- and steel manufacturing, textile and clothing production, cement chemical manufacturing, tyre production, engineering workshops and primary agriculture. Port Shepstone and its environs have been identified as a major growth area in the KZN Provincial Growth and Development Strategy, which provides a strategic framework for the next ten years that is based on partnerships among all sectors of society. Additionally, they will drive the economic activity needed for long term sustainable growth.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is a category B municipality and falls within Ugu District (DC21) found on the southern part of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Its administrative seat is in Port Shepstone. The municipality boarders the Indian Ocean on its eastern part while the far southern part of the municipality runs Umtamvuna River which is the boundary between KwaZulu Natal (KZN) and the Eastern Cape.
